2018 Hurricane Forecast is to be above average

With the Atlantic hurricane season starting on June 1, the initial forecast predicts an above average season.  Colorado State University (CSU) issued their preliminary forecast with 14 named storms, 7 of which are expected to be hurricanes, and three are expected to be major storms.

CSU is predicted with a 63% probability of at least one major hurricane making landfall in the continental United States this.  The normal average is 52%.

With the hurricane season less than 60 days away, it is a good time to review your insurance.

Flood Insurance offered through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has a 30 day waiting period before coverage begins.  You would need to have a flood policy in place by May to ensure that you have coverage during the season.  In addition, you may need to get an elevation certificate as well which takes some time as well.  If you considering flood insurance coverage, this is the time to act.

With two major storms over the last two years, the hurricane deductible has become more prevalent.  With most policies having a 2% deductible of the building value, this can be a significant cost that we are faced in the event of a claim.  Take a house that is insured for $400,000 with a 2% hurricane deductible, this would equate to a $8,000 deductible.  We can eliminate this hurricane insurance deductible.  Just ask us how.
